KJA Board of Directors meeting January 8, 2008
Present at the meeting were John Hosack, Judy Wing, Lisa Brown, and Linda Shea.
A discussion was had about nominating Ken Massey for the open position of treasurer due to the resignation of Kari Wempe. Massey has expressed a desire to assume this position and will be asked to do so.
Next item of discussion was the KJA website. After a short discussion, it was agreed upon by all members present that Judy wing should be the only one that updates the website. Judy will contact Bill Patton and advise him of this. Judy will be the designated liaison and should receive a CC of all invoices received for services rendered.
The board discussed the idea of a jail conference and decided we are not yet in a position to sponsor one. Also discussed was the booth at the KSA conference. We did have a booth there at the cost of $2,000 .
Another item of discussion was looking at measures to generate funds. One of the ideas was FTO training. While KLETC puts on a good FTO training class, it is geared towards patrol. NIC puts on good training. Judy Wing will look into WSU training. Randall could possibly teach a 1st line supervisor/training the supervison class.
Next item was Corrections Officer Training classes. These are set for February 25 - 29th, June 23 -27, Oct 27 - 31 of 2008.
Henderson brought up questions asked by Jim Parker from Geary county about Parker not being asked to teach at the training classes. After a brief discussion it was decided not to address the situation unless Parker brings it up again.
Judy Wing asked about setting up meetings for the board and general assembly. We decided to have board meetings on the follwing dates: March 4, June 3, September 9, and December 2 of 2008. These meetings will be at 10:00 a.m. at the Saline County Sheriff's Office. Two general assembly meetings were agreed upon. These meetings will be June 4th and September 10th. These meetings will be the day after the June and September board meetings. A conversation was held about whether we should have training at the general assembly meetings. Money making ventures could come from these meetings - perhaps management training could be offered at the general assembly meeting. Perhaps we could get feedback at the end of the officer training school asking about further training desired.
We need an FTO school, and line staff supervision class. Lt. Brown will check on the costs of the training room at KHP.
The need for a new NE representative was addressed. Brian Anschutz from Emporia was brought up. Henderson nominated Anschutz. Hosack advised he would ask Anschutz.
The meeting was adjourned.
