I. Announcements
The meeting was called to order at 10:00 am by Judy Wing. It was noted that Kenny Massey-Treasurer, John Hosack-NW Rep. and Brian Anstey were not able to attend. Roll was taken with the above listed members present. Minutes of the previous meeting read by Chris Weis and approved. Treasurer's report read by Chris Weis. Balance of $20,844.19 in coffers, and approved. Training committee report read by Jeff Orbaugh. There were 39 graduates in the last Basic Inmate Supervision class. There was one class member that dropped out. Membership Committee report, and Work Place Committee reports were tabled for discussion. Old business consisted of the website needing updates, and reimbursement practices. New business consisted of the Resignation of Roberta Harris, Secretary, and disbursement of secretary duties until the position is filled. Dates for upcoming meetings for 2009 set.
II. Discussion
Chris Weis and Judy Wing will split Secretary duties until the position is filled. Chris will check into the next time Ford County has a transport in the Neosho County area to pick up the printer and computer from Roberta Harris.
Numerous ideas were discussed for the web site. There is a need for updates. There were requests that on the site there would be a tab exclusively for meeting minutes, both board meetings and general assembly meetings. Currently the minutes follow the meeting dates. Some would like a separate tab for meeting dates and times. If possible they would like email links under contact information of board members. We need to take off the old job listings that are outdated. A "Get Involved" tab was suggested in which openings or needs within the KJA would be listed. New board members need contact information and pictures. A Committee tab was also suggested breaking down the committees with chairs and committee members. Currently the only committee on the site is the training committee. Members would like a submit button on the web site for the applications for classes to be filled out and submitted to Lisa Brown's email. Judy Wing will contact John Patton about these changes.
III. Roundtable
It was decided that Judy Wing would try to reach Bob DeJarnett, Chair, of Sumner County in referance to the Membership Committee and where things are standing with them. Some duties of the Work Place Committee were hammered out and agreed upon. They will be working on a set of Kansas Jail Standards and an incentive pamphlet for the Kansas Jail Association to begin with. Chair of the committee is Derick Tyler of Ford County. Joshua Phillips is also on the committee. The committee needs one more member. Upcoming training was discussed. Jeff Orbaugh will be checking into training for the next General Assembly meeting. There is an opening for an instructor for a 2 hour block on Basic Inmate Supervision at the Basic Jail School. There is still a need for an Awards Committee, and a Conference Planning Committee which will include a chair and 2 committee members on each committee. There is a possible opening on the membership committee for 1 member. The By Laws committee had nothing to report at this time.
