Kansas Jail Association General Session
March 4, 2009
I. Call To Order – President Judy Wing called the General Assembly meeting of the Kansas Jail Association to order.
II. Roll Call – A sign in sheet was passed around the room for a roll call. The following persons were present.

III. Welcome from Shawnee County – Richard Kline Provided general information and gave a history of the Shawnee County Department of Corrections.
IV. Jeff Orbaugh introduced the speakers – Corporal Keekee S. Taylor and Corporal Clayton A. Barth.
a. Corporal Keekee S. Taylor has been with the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Department since January 2002. During his tenor as a Detention Deputy, he was trained in all basic aspects of the job. In April 2006, he was promoted to Detention Corporal, and has received training in Crisis Intervention, Instructor Development, and Gang Identification. He currently serves on the departments Defensive Tactics Team.
b. Corporal Clayton A. Barth serves as a Detention Corporal for the Sedgwick County Detention Facility. He has been in Law Enforcement for the past 10 years. For 6 years, he has studied street and prison gangs. Corporal Barth is a two-year member of the Kansas Gang Investigators Association. He has presented Gang Identification Programs to several law enforcement agencies and corrections facilities over the past 5 years.
V. Gang Identification Training for majority of day.
VI. Meeting Close –
a. President Judy Wing thanked everyone for their time, attendance, and sharing. She extended a special thank you to the Shawnee County Department of Corrections for holding the KJA’s Board and General Session’s meeting at their facility.
b. Vice President Chris Weis gave a 5-minute update.
i. Please check out the KJA website for meeting minutes and upcoming training
ii. Kimberley Smoots has filled the open secretary position
iii. There is an open slot for a Northwest Representative and also openings on the following committees – Workplace, Awards, and Conference
iv. Membership Renewals and invitations have gone out to all 105 counties
c. Upcoming Training Opportunities
i. Training in Dodge City on 03/26/09 for Transport and Court Room Security through KLETC.
ii. Training on 05/11/09 in Dodge City from 10am.-3p.m., on “Life Safety Code.” Put on by the State Fire Marshal’s Office through KLETC. The class can be registered for from the KLETC website. |
