Kansas Jail Association Meeting Minutes
June 4, 2008

 

I. Call to order
Judy Wing called to order the General Assembly meeting of the Kansas Jail Association at 10:00 on June 4, 2008 in the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center building A.

Roll call
A sign in sheet was passed through the room to conduct a roll call. The following persons were present:

II. Open issues
a) KJA letterhead- The board agreed upon letterhead and that secretary should keep it on file electronically.

b) Training committee report- Jeff Orbaugh, and Chris Weis discussed upcoming trainings, 40 hour jail school, potential Dodge City Community College classes for corrections, and the upcoming supervisor's training hosted by KJA in Salina. Lisa Brown suggested a generic application be designed for varying classes and put on the website.

c) Treasury report- Kenny Massey reported that KJA has balance of $20,120.00 today.

III. New business
a) Voting on new board of Kansas Jail Association- General Assembly voted for KJA board nominees to fill the positions of President, Vice President, South West Representative, North East Representative, and Secretary. The board consists of the following: Kenny Massey agreed to remain the Treasurer for the KJA. John Hosack will remain the South East Representative. The Training Committee will continue to consist of Lisa Brown, Jeff Orbaugh, and Chris Weis. The President is Judy Wing.Vice President is Chris Weis. Southwest Representative is Ruth Divelbiss. North East Representative is Brian Anstey. Secretary is Roberta Harris.

b) Potential Scholarship for worthy recipient of $500.00 towards college. Kenny Massey will check with Kansas Sheriff's Association as to the details of the scholarship they distribute. This will be discussed at the Sept. 9 board meeting.

c) The board discussed potential membership committee members, a new NW representative, and a Sgt. At Arms. Discussed a possible vote by proxy should we be able to fill those positions prior to the Sept. 9, 10 meeting in Emporia.

d) It was determined that the 6 pm Sept. 9 board meeting and the 10:00 am Sept. 10 General Assembly meeting will be held at the Lyon County Sheriff's Office in Emporia Kansas. Presenters yet to be determined. It was agreed that in future trainings the KJA would present a small token of appreciation to presenters for giving their time.

Judy Wing adjourned the meeting at 1:30 PM
