Kansas Jail Association Board Meeting
September 9th, 2008 @ 1830 hrs
Lyon County Law Enforcement Center
The meeting was called to order at 1830 hours. It was noted that Kenny Massey - Treasurer would not be able to attend.
Roll take with the following Board Members and Representatives present:
President Judy Wing - Pratt County
Vice President Chris Weis - Ford County

NE Representative Brian Anstey - Lyon County
NW Representative Reid Rogers - Thomas County
Membership Board Chair Bob DeJarnett - Sumner County
Membership Board Asst. Scott Huddleston - Coffey County
Training Board Chair Jeff Orebaugh - Finney County
Minutes of previous meeting - motion to waive last minutes reading by Chris Weis, second Brian Anstey.
Treasurer's Report via email by Kenny Massey read by Chris Weiss; approximately 127 current members and $20K plus for account balance. Motion to approve Brian Anstey and second by Chris Weis.
Committee Reports
Training Committee report from Jeff Orebaugh; approximately 40 registered to attend Basic Jail Course 9/29 - 10/3/08. The last 7/23 - 7/27/08 Basic Jail Course 30 attended and graduated. The Jail Supervisor Course 22 attended and graduated in June 2008. Training Committee would like to look at extend Basic Jail Course another week. The Jail Supervisor Course to at least four days class and have annually. Possibly move Basic Jail Course to Dodge City Community College for the May/June class, this will allow a lower housing cost and more opportunity for the closer counties to attend. Supervisor class to stay in Salina. Chris Weis motion and Reid Rogers second, all in agreement.

NO JAIL SUPERVISOR DATES SET AT THIS TIME
Instructor expense for room and board will be paid directly to the provider by KJA. Reimbursement requested to Ford and Finney County. Motioned by Brian Anstey and second by Roberta Harris, all in agreement.
Membership Committee - report from Bob DeJarnett; membership need for increase and update renewals. Researching possible options for life insurance for members. Bob will send updates via jail fax. Discussion with Scott Huddleston on web page updates and improvements. It was decided that Scott and Bob would work with the current web page provider with improvements and updates with a cap and subject to approval through the President over that cap. Membership dues to the Treasurer per calendar year. September and later paid memberships paid will include the following year. Motion by Chris Weis and second by Brian Anstey, all in agreement. Kevin Massey, via email, would like ideas to recognize members agency and individuals. Discussion of memberships to change as follows: Agency membership per county at $10.00 a Correctional Officer annually. Membership application form will be revised by Scott Huddleston, Bob DeJarnett, and Chris Weis without cooperate option on the form. The membership benefit will be a $10 discount on Basic Jail Course and Jail Supervisor Course. It will be up to the county to keep their personnel names updated with the Membership Committee. Motion by Brian Anstey and second by Reid Rogers, all in agreement.
New Business:
Chris Weis - revise by laws and presented next meeting. Honorary memberships approved at Board's discretion.

Judy Wing - Discussion of Ken Kerle expressing interest of helping with KJA, possible Executive Director, to plan and arrange conferences. Accepted new business motion by Chris Weis and second by Brian Anstey, moved and carried by all.
Motion to accept old business as presented by Brian Anstey and second by Roberta Harris. Notion to adjourn made and seconded. Meeting adjourned at 2045 hours.
